Cincinnati Rollergirls announces name change to Cincinnati Roller Derby
As part of its 20th anniversary season, Cincinnati Rollergirls has officially changed its name to Cincinnati Roller Derby.
The change reflects the continued evolution of both the organization and the sport of roller derby. The sport welcomes and celebrates athletes of all marginalized genders and the new name aligns with the inclusive identity the team has embraced and the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) gender policy. The organization said the new name better represents who it has already become.
While the name has changed, the team’s mission, values and commitment to the sport remain the same. Cincinnati Roller Derby continues the legacy built over two decades of competition, community engagement and athletic achievement. The organization has also incorporated as an Ohio non-profit organization and is applying for federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, underscoring its dedication to community and the growth of the sport.
Cincinnati Roller Derby honors the history of Cincinnati Rollergirls and the people who shaped it. Skaters, officials, volunteers and supporters have contributed time, talent and dedication over the past 20 years, building the foundation for the team’s success.
Along with the name change, the team has introduced an updated logo and creative assets for the 20th season, designed by Mojo PSG, the organization’s creative agency. Mojo also led Cincinnati’s 2016 rebrand, continuing its work to reflect the team’s identity and connection to the Cincinnati community. The redesigned mark places greater emphasis on “Cincinnati,” highlighting the team’s role as the city’s only roller derby organization.
Cincinnati Roller Derby will continue competing, growing the sport and serving the community in the years ahead. More information on the league’s 2026 season will be announced soon.
