Natalie Jones Tries Roller Derby With Cincinnati Roller Derby

What happens when Cincinnati favorite, Natalie Jones of The Crown shows up to a roller derby practice?

A lot of laughs, a few wobbly moments and a newfound respect for the sport.

Natalie recently joined Cincinnati Roller Derby as part of her series where she takes on new and unexpected experiences around the city. This time, she traded her usual role behind the camera for a pair of quad skates and a chance to see what roller derby is really all about.

Like many first-time visitors, she quickly learned that roller derby is much more than people skating in circles and knocking each other down. From skating drills to learning the basics of gameplay, she got a firsthand look at the athleticism and teamwork that drive the sport.

Our skaters had a great time sharing the track with Natalie and answering questions that many newcomers have about roller derby. Watching the sport through fresh eyes is always a good reminder of how much there is to learn and how welcoming the derby community can be.

We’re grateful to Natalie and The Crown for spending an evening with us and helping introduce roller derby to a wider audience in Cincinnati. Her willingness to jump in, try something new and embrace the challenge made for a fun and memorable practice.

If you’ve ever been curious about roller derby, take a page from Natalie’s playbook and give it a try. Every skater starts somewhere and our up-coming Bootcamp is a great place to do so!
